In defense of WriMos everywhere, I have posed the question "what if you don't have 50,000 words of story to tell?" What happens if you reach 40k, and "The End" is all you have left to write? Frankly, I don't know if I'll hit the arbitrarily-set goal, myself, and I'm not losing any sleep over it.

Going to write-ins and trying to get 1700 words per day… THAT is causing me to lose sleep.

I happen to think that the whole 1,700 wpd thing is really just designed to be a goad to people who would otherwise be looking for excuses as why not to be working on their stories. On the other hand, if you find yourself one of those people who knows that they are going to finish the work, and work consistently and regularly, then the ultimate goals of NaNo are accomplished.

It's less about a set word count, and more about dragging yourself to the keyboard or typewriter or pen and just doing something.
