If this was filthy when you received it, that's not apparent at all now. You did an excellent cleaning job. The back view, with that piece in the middle, looks cool.

That's a truly classy machine. The cabinets are amazing too. Is it silly that I got all drooly over old wooden cabinets filled with typewriter parts?

Great cleaning job, Richard! What's that lubricant/spray can you are using?

That's Lectra-Matic electric motor cleaner. It evaporates fast, is nonflammable, and is good for cleaning out old grease.

They do scrub up nicely. I thought the one I was given was in clean condition, until I started cleaning it in earnest. What was matt came out glossy! And I agree, you get a real sense of period using them.

Wow! That's a great turnaround, Richard. I need to bring mine home from where I have it sitting on the desk at work and clean it up! Thanks for sharing this!

I just got this typewriter as a gift and getting ready to clean it. Thanks for the tips. The glass window on the side is missing. Any idea what was actually there?

If it was this particular model, it doesn't have glass windows, but rather metal panels that are finished in wrinkle paint. The panel on the right has a curved opening through which you can see the key tension indicator. These panels aren't necessary — they just keep out some dust.
